4a:REFLECTING
ON TEACHING
A reflection of a first-grade classroom from 2018.
EDUCATION 324 REFLECTION
The two reflections above are beyond comparison. They do not reflect the same thing. However, I wanted to look at the growth in my reflections, regardless of an observation or a lesson. The first is a daily reflection and the second is a reflection that was required to apply to the H.U.M.A.N developer format. Only two of my lesson reflections have been specifically instructed to reflect that way, my Education 331 and Education 324 courses. I believe in the Education 324 reflection you see a thoughtful and accurate assessment of a lesson’s effectiveness and the extent to which it achieved its instructional outcomes. You do not see that type of reflection in the first from 2018. Though the lessons taught are not mine, I am still reflecting upon lessons and effective teaching. My Education 324 course reflection cites many specific examples from the lesson and weighing the relative strengths of my class. In both there is a drawing on an extensive repertoire of skills, it is just that the educators are completely different, one a student and one a veteran teacher. My deep reflection in Education 324 I offer specific actions, complete success of the students courses of action. The daily reflection does not have any data or analysis but it is nice to see the growth that I have as a teacher. I am now reflecting on myself and not someone else. I am now journaling about my daily reflections as an educator and I am no longer the observer.
