Sitting in on meetings with Denise Davenport about the Science of Reading and implementation.
Seeking out opportunities for professional development has never been something that I shy from. In class, but more so at home, I do make a systematic effort to conduct action research. At Dunbar Intermediate, I sat in on their initial meeting with Denise Davenport, Curriculum Specialist, about the Science of Reading and incorporating it into the current curriculum. When Heggerty rolled out this year in both Putnam and Kanawha County, I immediately began doing my own research on it to find everything I could about the program. I was the same way when iReady came out in Putnam county. I want to know all that these programs entail and what my children are working with, now what myself and my students be learning and using.
I am always looking for feedback on practice from both supervisors and colleagues, I want to know every improvement I can make to better myself. As I mentioned in my personal mission statement and philosophy I want my students to be the the best that they can be and obtain success. I can only do that if I continue to work on bettering myself and continue to learn and make every contribution to the profession that I can.
